Read It Forward- After Schooled Wrap Up Party
Only 2 more weeks until the After Schooled wrap up party at the Georgetown Public Library. Anyone who has read “Schooled” by Gordon Korman can pick up an invitation from the Benold, Forbes, Tippit, or NGC librarians.
If you haven’t read the book yet, there is still time. Find a copy. Look around your school or ask your friends if they have a copy. Each book has instructions telling you what to do when you finish the book. GPL is providing a website that will track each copy as well as reader comments. Click the Read-it-Forward graphic above or look for a link on any of the participating campus library web pages.
Read the book and join us at the Georgetown Public Library on Saturday May 9, 2009 from 1:30 to 3:00. Celebrate the end of Read it Forward with pizza and soda, tie dying, Guitar Hero, a Tai Chi demonstration and jewelry making. Plus a grand prize drawing for an iPod shuffle. (Must be present to win)

Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit

Balsa is a female bodyguard. She is master of the short spear, an expert in martial arts, smart, and totally fearless. Balsa is unknown in New Yogo until she rescues the Second Prince Chagum from drowning. The prince’s mother suspects that someone is trying to kill Chagum and hires Balsa to protect her son. While fleeing, Balsa realizes this job is far from ordinary. Chagum exhibits strange behaviors from glowing at night, frightening nightmares, switching between two realities, and being inexplicably drawn to water. Along their journey, with the help of two friends- Tanda and Torogai- they learn the truth of what troubles Chagum. Chagum is the Moribito- Guardian of the Spirit. The Water Guardian has laid its egg in Chagum and unless they get the egg to its home in the distant sea, New Yogo will experience a terrible drought. It will take all her knowledge and skill to save Chagum from those who want him dead- the king of New Yogo and the egg eating monster Rarunga.
