Friday February 26^th is Teen Open Game Night.    Play Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero: World Tour, MarioKart, Super Smash Brothers Brawl and much more. Play on a PS2 and the Nintendo Wii. Or bring your own gear. And don’t forget your friends. 6-8 pm in the Hewlett Room. Sodas and snacks provided. Free and open to teens ages 12-18.

Saturday February 27^th is Animanga Club @ GPL 3-4:30 pm.  Welcome Otaku. Anime and Manga lovers share your passion with others like you. Watch anime, discuss manga, draw, preview new manga titles,  and help the library purchase related materials. Sodas and snacks provided.  Free and open to teens ages 12-18

Racers, start your engines.  March 6, 2010 from 1-4 pm @ GPL is a MarioKart Free For All!  One chance to grab some fame and fortune (ok, a few prizes anyway).    The race venue is MarioKart for the Wii.  Drivers in grades 6-12 are welcome to show their stuff.  Refuel with pizza, snacks, and soda.  Registration and open play begins at 12:30.  Pit yourself against other drivers to see who comes out on top.

Whether you love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is almost here.  Join us @ GPL to celebrate or lament the holiday.  Saturday February 13, 2010 3-4 pm.  Teens ages 12-18 are welcome to come and decorate cookies, make iPod valentines, make duct tape roses, and enjoy the deliciousness of a chocolate fountain. Think of it as our little valentine to you.

It’s time for the second annual Read-It-Forward extravaganza to begin. The Georgetown Middle Schools and Ninth Grade Center join the Georgetown Public Library to offer this fun and creative reading experience.

Over 400 copies of Found have been scattered around the four campuses and GPL.   Found is book one in the Missing series by Margaret Peterson Haddix. The first students to find the books get to start the reading chain.

Each book has instructions telling you exactly what you need to do after you find a book.  GPL is providing a website that will track each copy as well as reader comments. Click the Read-it-Forward graphic above or look for a link on any of the participating campus library web pages.

The most important step is to take the copy you just read and “read-it-forward” by sharing it with a friend or leaving it somewhere on campus for another student to find.

Georgetown Public Library and the Friends of the Library will host a wrap up party on April 24,2010.  So, read the book, pass it on, get the invitation and then party.  We’ll celebrate the end of Read it Forward with pizza, Wii basketball, crafts and a grand prize drawing.  Watch for more details on the Found tracking website or your school library web page.  Or check with your school librarian.

Once you find a book- here’s what you do.

1. Read the book

2.  Autograph the back of the book

3.  Pass it to a friend or re-hide the book (aka: read it forward)

4.  Go to your library website

5.  Complete the Read it Forward Survey

7.  See your librarian for an invitation to the “Found” party

8.  Attend  for the chance to win an awesome prize

The movie New Moon from the Stephenie Meyer Twilight saga is almost here.  To celebrate, GPL had a Twilight Party last Friday.   To start off we  declared our heart’s desire by choosing a Team Jacob or Team Edward button.  Then we sparkled up like the vampires and shared our love of the books.  Henna tattoos, magnets and t-shirts,  trivia, MarioKart, and yummy treats rounded out the evening of Twilight fun.

Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?  Whichever boy you are rooting for come celebrate the release of New Moon and all things Twilight related Friday November 13, 2009 from 7-9 pm.  Watch New Moon trailers and related videos, party with Twilight Trivia, werewolf kibble, blood bar, sparkle Like a Cullen, drive like a Cullen, snack on Twilight related food, henna tattoos, and make your own Twilight related magnets and t-shirts.    Teens ages 12-18.

After two qualifying rounds, the field was narrowed down to sixteen.  Last Saturday the final sixteen became eight, then four, then two and finally a champion was crowned.  The MarioKart grand racing champion is Jake B.  (See picture) who won a $50 gift certificate to Game Stop.

Second place went to Connor S. ($30 gift certificat to Game Stop),  third place to Leland P. ($20 gift certificate to Game Stop), and fourth place to Jackson S.  (See picture)  Congratulations guys.  Everyone was great and we had fun watching the races and snacking on pizza.

The second weekend of qualifying rounds for the MarioKart tournament at GPL is over.  There was some exciting  racing and fierce competition.  The top 8 finalists (see picture)  from last Saturday’s competition head on to the finals that take place on Saturday October 24, 2009.

It’s now down to the final 16.  Who will take it all and be crowned grand champion?  Only one way to find out.  Come to the finals on Saturday October 24.  Sign In and open play at 1:00.  Racing begins at 2:00.   Cheer on the drivers and have some pizza and soda.

The first weekend of qualifying rounds for the MarioKart tournament at GPL have come and gone.  We had a lot of fun and saw some amazing racing.  The top 8 competitors from last Saturday’s competition head on to the finals that take place on Saturday October 24, 2009.  If you missed last weekend, have  no fear. There is one more chance to qualify for the finals.  The next qualifying round will take place on Saturday October 17, 2009.  Open play and registration are at 1:00.  Competition begins at 2:00.  The final 8 players from that qualifying event will also go on to the finals.

Rock on with Guitar Hero and  Guitar Hero: World Tour.  New games for the Wii including Guitar Hero 5, Wii Resort Sports, Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party, and  Super Mario Galaxy.  Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library we now have 2 42″ flat screen televisions.   Play games on a PS2 and the Nintendo Wii.
